The Ripon Public Library director presented a contractor estimate of about $41,000 ("almost $42,000") to seal and insulate aging HVAC ductwork in the West Wing during the board's regular meeting.
"I just got a quote yesterday ... it would be $41,000 almost $42,000 for ICAM Building Solutions to do that," said the Library director (S3) during the director's report. She characterized the proposed seal-and-wrap approach as more effective than spray-foam or added batting for ducts built in 1972.
Board members pressed on how the expense would be funded. The director said the $500 insulation job for the director's office came from the contingency fund and that she would review contingency spending to see whether the duct work could be charged there.
"We need to look back and see what all has been actually spent out of that contingency fund," the director (S3) said, adding that she would report numbers and, if necessary, coordinate a special meeting so the contractor could schedule work before April's busy season.
Members agreed they could not approve the contractor or funding without placing the item on an agenda and conducting a formal vote. The chair and director discussed scheduling a special meeting within two weeks to resolve timing and funding so the contractor could be booked before the summer season.
The board did not take a formal vote on the HVAC line at this meeting; the director committed to provide updated contingency figures and to circulate possible meeting times for a prompt follow-on vote.
