Board adopts RHS math materials and considers replacing I-Ready with Spring Math screener

The Ripon Area School District moved forward on a set of curriculum and assessment changes. The board voted to adopt new RHS math instructional materials after the math department presented the recommendation and no substantive opposition was raised.

Administrators also recommended eliminating I-Ready and adopting Spring Math as the district’s primary math screener for K–8. A curriculum committee member told the board Spring Math is not only a diagnostic but also generates teacher-facing weekly intervention lessons that teachers can print and deploy. "This screener not only provides the diagnostic to determine where kids are at, but it also does provide an actual intervention program for our students and for our teachers," the presenter said.

For early literacy the district will continue to use required tools at K–3 (AIMSweb) and adopt an alternate diagnostic for older grades; staff described plans to integrate the new metrics with existing data, allow teachers to assign interventions, and use the screener for special-education students where appropriate. Board members asked about data portability and how the new screeners will align with existing reporting; staff said they expect to be able to integrate results and that the change responds to teacher feedback about engagement and testing time.

The math materials adoption was approved on a motion with the chair announcing the motion passed (the transcript notes the vote as passing unanimously with one absence). Further implementation steps and staff training were discussed but not detailed in the public session.
