Boonsboro planners set June–August 2025 window for Campus Avenue realignment and move forward on land swap

Boonsboro — The town’s planning staff told the council on Dec. 9 that the Campus Avenue relocation must be completed during a two-month window between June and August 2025 and that bid specifications should be ready to go before school lets out for summer.
Town Planner Drew Bowen said the Dean South final plats have been recorded and that the town is proceeding with a land swap of 202 Maple Avenue for the Chase Six Boulevard–Campus Avenue realignment project. Bowen said he is working with the Washington County Board of Education to get permission for Mr. McIlwee to have a pole building at the new location during December 2024 while the land-swap logistics move forward.
As a related near-term step, the Planning Commission recommended restriping Chase Six Boulevard and adding a turn lane into the Weis Market shopping center to improve safety in anticipation of the future connection to Maple Avenue. Bowen said ARRO Consulting reviewed multiple striping plans and that Alpha Space Control, LLC provided an estimated cost of $5,945 for the restriping option the commission favored. Council Member Eric Kitchen moved to obtain three quotes for the line striping; the motion carried.
Bowen emphasized the schedule constraint: the relocation “MUST be completed within a 2-month period between June and August 2025 and MUST begin as soon as school lets out for the Summer,” language recorded in the meeting minutes. The minutes show the council approved the administrative steps discussed but do not list a construction start date beyond the scheduling constraint.
