Waldo utility board affirms Chapter 67 ordinance, reviews plant operations and approves vouchers

The Waldo Water & Sewer Utility Board met Jan. 13, 2025, and conducted routine business including affirming an ordinance to amend Chapter 67, approving meeting minutes and vouchers, and reviewing its wastewater treatment plant operations report.
President Gary Dekker called the meeting to order at 7:55 p.m. Trustees Jerome Hammarlund, Steve Bunnow, and Dennis Reinemann were present; Trustee Mike Hintz was absent. Bruce Neerhof, officer in charge (participating by phone), delivered the utility operations report. Lisa Gillette served as clerk/treasurer.
Neerhof reported that the December utility lab results showed all effluent parameters met permit limits. He said phosphorus remained below effluent limits after adding water to the head end of the septic tanks.
The report described equipment and infrastructure issues. An ultrasonic sensor in the fine-screen channel had been producing false alarms caused by fog in zero-degree weather; a staff member identified only as Dean installed insulation over grates and around the screen housing and placed a concrete blanket around the outdoor influent sampler to improve electronic-display performance. A distribution pipe on a recirculating sand filter broke; the board was told Hauke Plumbing will repair that pipe once ice conditions allow. The minutes noted that PVC pipe older than about 10 years appears unable to handle pressure and strain at fittings and is prone to failure.
Contractor Great Lake is completing sewer line and manhole repairs. The board was informed that one manhole on County Highway 57 is in poor condition and will need to be lined; a proposal for that lining will be included in the final report.
Neerhof also said the wastewater treatment plant must now meet weekly, monthly, and yearly pound limits for suspended solids. He completed the annual sludge-hauling report and filed it with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
On procedural items, Trustee Jerome Hammarlund moved to approve the Dec. 9, 2024 utility board minutes; Trustee Dennis Reinemann seconded and the motion carried. Trustee Steve Bunnow moved to affirm Ordinance 2025-02, which repeals, recreates and amends Chapter 67: Building Construction; Trustee Reinemann seconded and the motion carried.
Trustee Hammarlund moved to approve vouchers 9321–9331 in the amount of $13,503.85; Trustee Steve Bunnow seconded and the motion carried. Trustee Reinemann moved to approve December's treasurer's report; Trustee Hammarlund seconded and the motion carried.
There was no correspondence, no board updates reported, and no public comment. Trustee Hammarlund moved to adjourn; Trustee Reinemann seconded and the meeting adjourned at 8:13 p.m.
The board did not set a date for the next meeting in the minutes provided.
