The Walworth Town Board on June 18 adopted a Workflow Management and Budgeting of Town Legal Services Policy (Policy 2026-1) to standardize how the town requests and budgets for legal work.
Under the policy the Town Supervisor or designated administrative officer will oversee legal expenditures and route non-routine legal requests. The Town Attorney will provide legal advice, evaluate conflicts of interest, and assign tasks. Department heads and appointed officials are required to route requests through administrative channels; elected officers retain authority to consult the Town Attorney on routine matters and emergency communications are exempted from routing requirements.
The policy defines "significant legal services" as tasks requiring substantial research, formal opinions, legislative drafting, contract negotiation or litigation support, and lists procedures for submission, routing, coordination, evaluation and execution of requests. The board adopted the policy by resolution and set a one-year review date.
