Board approves $2,135 historical marker for Ullery Park with bilingual access via QR code

Matthew Moyers, special project manager for the parks department, requested approval to design, fabricate and deliver a historical marker sign for Ullery School as part of Ullery Park renovations. "The total amount, including the translation and delivery, is targeted at dollars 2,135," Moyers said.
A board member praised the design but urged that given the park’s diverse neighborhood there should also be a physical Spanish-language sign rather than relying solely on a QR code. Moyers said the initial installation will include a QR code linking to bilingual text and images and that staff will explore design options to allow an expandable structure for a future Spanish-language panel.
A motion to approve the signage and expenditure of $2,135 carried unanimously. The board requested that staff prioritize bilingual access in time for an August 8 installation if feasible.
