Maysville aldermen set budget timeline, hear staff reports on wastewater inspection and infrastructure issues

The Maysville Board of Aldermen moved forward on routine business and administrative matters at its Feb. 19 meeting, approving the consent agenda and directing staff on several operational items.

The board voted to approve the consent agenda, which included minutes from Jan. 22 and Jan. 30 and multiple checks for city funds. Resident Jeff Tucker told the board a 2-inch water line at a rental property had burst; the board asked city crew to use a line locator to trace the unknown line and meet with Tucker next week to decide repair steps.

City Clerk Jennifer Justus reported the puppy pound passed inspection and said she has a court date of March 5 for a separate dog complaint. She was also asked to check for damage to the Barlett Park bathrooms after pipe breaks and to contact the city’s insurance company about a January claim. The clerk asked whether the city should apply for a Region D grant; the board agreed to pursue funding for benches along the walking trail.

Public works staff member Michele Alwood told aldermen that the Missouri Department of Natural Resources will conduct a wastewater inspection at 10:00 a.m. March 25, including reviews of the lagoons, two lift stations and opening five manholes. Alwood also said some water bills had to be estimated this month because of weather.

The board agreed to begin work on the city budget; the city clerk will prepare a rough draft for discussion at the board’s last meeting in April, and the board scheduled a public hearing on the budget for June 11 as part of the ordinance process. The meeting adjourned at 8:26 p.m., and the board set its next meeting for March 5 at 6:00 p.m.
