Maysville board approves consent agenda, pays engineering bill and hears public concerns about sidewalks and trees

The Maysville Board of Aldermen approved its consent agenda and several routine items during a Dec. 11 meeting that also included public comments about accessibility and maintenance.
Alderman Larry Zieber moved to approve the consent agenda, including minutes from Nov. 13 and Nov. 25, 2024, and checks across city funds; Alderman Amy Justus seconded and the motion carried.
During public comment, Angela Dowell said she objected to a board member’s personal Facebook comment and told the board the comment should have been handled differently; the board member replied that the remark was personal and not related to city business. Dowell also raised concerns about the condition of handicap ramps around the square and about vehicles parking on the east-side sidewalk that impede wheelchair access. Mayor Ronnie Pearl said he would speak with the business owner and ask that the sidewalk be kept clear for wheelchairs.
Resident JoAnn Whitford asked the city to remove trees on the city right-of-way before they fall and requested the sewer main behind her house be cleaned; the city clerk said she would seek bids for tree removal and arrange sewer-cleaning work.
On a separate motion, Alderman Clint Sellars moved to pay Bartlett & West $8,067.25 for engineering assistance related to a boil-order notice; Alderman Justus seconded and the motion carried.
The clerk reported she is preparing paperwork for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and working with a staff member named Josh to complete the documentation, and that she will start a water/sewer rate study. The clerk also said the city crew requested power to the new shed for equipment and asked for cost estimates. The board reviewed a contract with Bright Speed (formerly CenturyTel) for faster internet service; the clerk will send the contract to the city attorney for review. The clerk said she will attend Great Northwest Days at the state capital with an associate identified as Alice.
The meeting concluded with the board scheduling its next meeting for Dec. 23 at 6:00 p.m. and adjourning at 8:20 p.m.
