North Charleston Planning Commission elects Samuel Bellamy chair; Monteith named vice chair

Samuel Bellamy was elected chair of the North Charleston Planning Commission during the commission’s April meeting. Chair Sharon Reed opened nominations; a commissioner nominated Bellamy and the nomination was seconded and closed before the commission voted to confirm him as chair. Monteith was nominated and confirmed as vice chair, and Kelly Hewitt was named secretary.

Sharon Reed, who opened the meeting and identified the single advertised public hearing on the agenda, congratulated the newly elected officers and welcomed them. The commission conducted the votes by voice and raising of hands; the transcript records commissioners raising hands and acknowledging the new leadership but does not provide a roll‑call tally for the officer votes.

The officer elections occurred at the start of the April meeting as the commission moved into regular business, election of officers and standing procedural items. The chair indicated the commission looks forward to “great things” from the newly constituted leadership. The meeting then proceeded to staff reports and the rezoning and plat items on the published agenda.

The commission adjourned after completing the published agenda and routine staff reminders about training requirements for commissioners.
