North Charleston proclaims Coach Nathaniel Taylor Day; honors local small businesses

Mayor Reggie L. Burgess proclaimed April 20, 2026 as Coach Nathaniel T. Taylor Jr. Day to honor the Military Magnet Academy Lady Eagles and their head coach, who led the team to a 26–4 record and the 2026 South Carolina High School League Class A state championship.
"Congratulations," the mayor said as he read a proclamation that credited Coach Taylor with 181 career wins during his nine‑year tenure and recognized his mentorship of student athletes. Coach Taylor responded with thanks to his players, families and the community: "Really, don't know what to say right now... I just wanna say, 1st and foremost, thank you, my heavenly father... I appreciate the young ladies, their hard work, their parents..."
The meeting also included a Small Business Week proclamation and the city presented Small Business Spotlight awards to Geechee South LLC and Quality Home and Lawn LLC. The presenter noted Geechee South has been awarded approximately $244,000 in city contracts, including work on the Persephone Mulcher Community Center, and that Quality Home and Lawn has received approximately $505,000 for demolition and ground‑maintenance work.
Hassan Sexton, owner of Geechee South, accepted his award and thanked the city: "Thank you, and thank everyone for, coming out." The presenter urged larger contractors to consider these local firms when awarding work.
The recognitions occurred near the start of the meeting before routine business and public comment.
