King George County sheriff to retire at end of 2026; names Major Patrick Weston as intended successor

The sheriff, speaking during the constitutional officers section of the meeting, said he took the decision after "much thought and reflection," praised his staff for their dedication and described the role as an honor. "I have complete confidence in Major Westin and his deputies who will continue the mission with honor and dedication," he said.
Board members responded with appreciation for the sheriff27s years of service and training programs he established. The chair thanked the sheriff and said supervisors were "excited because I know that you've, you're leaving us in very, very capable hands."
The sheriff did not give further operational details about transition steps; he said the appointment request will go to the King George County Circuit Court judge. The board took no formal vote on the announcement during the meeting.
