Cleveland to adopt state-required data privacy program and staff training by Dec. 31, 2025

Town staff told the Cleveland Town Council the state has created an Office of Data Privacy and that municipal entities must initiate a data privacy program before Dec. 31, 2025.
The temporary animal person/staff member (S5) presented a state template and read key duties: "A governmental entity shall initiate a data privacy program before 12/31/2025, obtain and process only the minimum amount of personal data reasonably necessary..." Staff said the town must place a privacy policy on its website, document data-handling practices (including bill-pay and account setup) and complete required training for office staff and the mayor.
Council members agreed staff would draft the town's privacy policy using the state template, post it on the website, and complete the training. The temporary animal person said she would forward the template to council and assist in training coordination. No formal ordinance change was made; the council directed staff to implement the administrative steps needed to comply with state requirements.
The council set an internal timeline for staff training and website updates to be completed ahead of the state deadline.
