The Borough of Mountainside Mayor and Council voted Nov. 5 to approve a settlement of a tax appeal and to authorize payment of audited bills totaling $227,308.42.
Resolution 134-2025 was introduced and seconded by Council President Pacifico and Councilwoman Wass and approved by roll call. The Stipulation of Settlement between Mountainside Borough and Mountainside Realty, LLC sets the 2025 assessment for the property at 284 Sheffield St. (Block 7.13, Lot 21) at $4,500,000, broken down as $538,300 for land and $3,961,700 for the improvement. Roll call recorded ayes from Matejek, Pacifico, Rinaldo, Van Deusen and Wass; no nays were recorded.
Separately, the council approved payment of audited bills in the amount of $227,308.42. The resolution authorizes the Mayor, Council President, Administrator and Treasurer to sign and deliver warrants when funds are available. That motion was introduced by Council President Pacifico, seconded by Councilman Matejek, and adopted by roll call with the same five ayes and zero nays recorded.
Other financial items discussed but not acted on included a State Tax Court judgment for Block 21 Lot 24.01 that would lower assessments for tax years 2023–2025 and allow a total refund of $20,854.77; council members instructed staff to prepare the appropriate resolution to process that judgment at a future meeting.
The meeting later adjourned to closed session for personnel and litigation matters and reconvened before final adjournment.
