Southern Oregon Sanitation ownership transition presented; county told name, management and franchise status will remain

Jackson County commissioners received an update on June 16 about an ownership transition involving Southern Oregon Sanitation and Waste Connections.
Trent Carpenter, president of Southern Oregon Sanitation (SOS), said the company is transitioning to Waste Connections ownership but that the SOS name will be retained and day‑to‑day management and employees will remain in place. Jen McGowan, district manager for SOS, will continue in her current role, Carpenter said.
Brian White, vice‑president of Waste Connections' Mountain Pacific Division, said the company does not anticipate large rate increases as a result of the acquisition. County Administrator Danny Jordan cautioned that in previous acquisitions some costs were not allocated appropriately, which can create problems for local governments and ratepayers. County Counsel Joel Benton confirmed that Southern Oregon Sanitation will remain a franchisee under the current arrangements.
No vote or formal county action was taken; the board thanked the presenters for the update.
