Board thanks outgoing president, welcomes student ex officio members and previews fall events

The Huntington Union Free School District Board of Education opened its July 7 regular business meeting with board member communications that included public thanks to Xavier for his three years in the role of board president and welcomes to student ex officio members.
Board members used the opening minutes to recognize recent ceremonies and district staff. One trustee said, “I would just like to take a moment to publicly thank Xavier,” and a colleague added those remarks, noting Xavier’s service “for the last 3 years in his role as president of the board.” The chair officially welcomed the students who will serve as ex officio members, saying she had “welcome[d] you as our ex officio board members.”
Trustees praised end-of-year events and staff. A trustee described graduation as “a beautiful day” and thanked administration, buildings and grounds, and teachers for organizing the ceremonies. Another trustee singled out Southdown teachers and principal Amott for their work with primary-grade students and thanked PTA units and SEPTA for volunteer support.
The board also flagged fall activities and community engagement: one trustee announced homecoming is scheduled for Oct. 17 with a 1 p.m. kickoff against Newfield and urged families to attend; the same trustee encouraged families to use summer reading resources posted on the district website.
The communications portion of the meeting concluded with routine housekeeping before the board moved into business items.
