One committee member asked whether membership is mandatory and whether the district gets value for the roughly $5,225 membership fee. Staff replied that the fee "opens the door" to services and that many offerings are opt‑in with separate costs. "The $5,200 opens the door for those other services to be provided," a staff member said.
A committee member raised concerns about some CESA materials and professional development frameworks, specifically the LIFT framework and language on cultural responsiveness. "The LIFT framework, it talks about how they're focusing on being culturally responsive, culturally relevant...depending on how people use it, maybe innocent, may not be, but the difficulty is it's really hard for us to tell," the member said, urging caution about how outside providers could influence classroom practice.
Staff responded that employee participation in professional development is subject to approval and that districts generally select the sessions they want. Munson noted some services are provided in‑house and others are paid as one‑off services.
Committee members agreed to place the CESA 2 contract on the full board agenda for Monday for further consideration and possible action.
