Fayette aldermen approve water-district membership, routine purchases, software migration and HPC reappointment

The Fayette Board of Aldermen on Feb. 24 approved a package of operational and administrative measures, including support for the Howard County Regional Water District’s plan to add Consolidated Water District #2, formal acceptance of a BS&A data-export changeover, maintenance purchases at the wastewater treatment plant, invoice payments, and the reappointment of Kathy Brady to the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC).
Water Superintendent Curtis Hammons told the council the regional water board is proposing to add Consolidated Water District #2 in stages — the south side now and the north side within five years — and recommended Fayette support the district’s plan. Alderman JB Waggoner moved to support the recommendation; Alderwoman Michelle Ishmael seconded and the motion passed 6–0.
City Administrator Deanna Cooper said the migration to BS&A requires some files be exported as Excel because prior data were stored in a COBALT format; the changeover carries no extra cost and the council approved the procedural authorization by motion. Cooper also explained that backup batteries and other parts at the wastewater treatment plant are aging; the board approved purchase of maintenance parts (approximately $8,000), and the item was noted as included in the current budget.
Under Resolution #2026-04 the council approved invoices for payment; Alderwoman Ronda Gerlt asked that a listed rock delivery be corrected from three loads to five loads with no change in price. The council approved the resolution 6–0.
Alderman Grafton Cook moved to reappoint Kathy Brady to the Historic Preservation Commission; Alderwoman Michelle Ishmael seconded and the reappointment was approved unanimously.
In board comments, Alderwoman Gerlt announced the Golden Study Club will host a municipal candidate forum at the Keller Building on Thursday, March 26, 7–9 p.m. Alderman Cook requested a future agenda item to further consider relocating the police department to the Keller Building; City Marshal Timothy Wells said the site appears to have suitable space and staff will provide more information. Alderman JB Waggoner asked for an update on the electric reliability study, suggested convening a finance committee ahead of budget season, asked about options for Howard County ambulance service, and urged prioritizing housing in upcoming grant applications.
A citizen concern about a basketball hoop left in the street on Lawrence Drive was raised during public comment; the City Marshal said he had already spoken with the resident and will follow up. The meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
