Fenton Committee backs RiverChase YMCA pool work, roof repairs and certified playground inspections

The Board of Aldermen Committee voted to forward several Parks & Recreation maintenance and capital items to the full Board after staff and the RiverChase YMCA described needed repairs and estimates.
RiverChase YMCA Associate Executive Director Anne Hays told the Committee the outdoor pools have multiple paint layers that are peeling and "the leisure pool closed before Labor Day and the comp pool closed in mid-October," prompting a recommendation to sandblast the pools rather than simply repaint. City Administrator Andrea N. Finkbiner said the Board may allocate the work to the City's RiverChase Capital Reserve Account (the contract specifies a dedicated account with a current balance of $500,000) or add it to the 2026 Capital Plan; the Committee approved forwarding the sandblasting/painting and slide refinishing project to the January Board meeting, allocating the cost to the Capital Plan, and waiving the City's bidding procedures provided the YMCA's chosen vendor will sign the City's contract.
Public Works Director Dan Howard briefed the Committee on a Lorenz and Associates quote of $8,351 to repair recent roof leaks at RiverChase; Alderman Robin Huels moved to forward the roof repair quote and the motion passed unanimously.
Staff also presented three quotes for annual certified playground inspections after the City lost its in-house certified inspector; the Committee accepted staff's recommendation to forward Ideal Play and Surfacing's proposal (including impact testing) to the Board so inspections can continue until a City employee can be trained and certified.
Separately, staff reviewed a broader package of park restroom and pavilion work (Bud Weil, Westside Park, Meramec Inn, Fenton City Park, Hitzert Pavilion and others), recommended grouping related items in formal bid packets, and provided an estimate from Corworth of approximately $185,000 for a prefabricated restroom for Fenton City Park that would include flood vents. The Committee gave consensus to proceed with formal bids for those projects and related fixtures and site work as budget and scheduling allow.
Each of the forwarded items will appear on the next Board of Aldermen agenda for final approval. The Committee did not specify final funding sources beyond the Capital Plan or reserve account replenishment requirements in the City/YMCA contract.
