Fayette aldermen approve health-insurance plan, finance MPUA spike and pass routine measures

The Fayette Board of Aldermen on Feb. 10 approved a new employee health-insurance option and several routine administrative measures, and agreed to finance a higher-than-expected electric bill that resulted from a recent winter storm.
Alderman Patrick Roll moved to adopt Option 4 — Level Health Silver 2000 — for the employees' health plan; Alderman David Frees seconded and the motion passed on a 6–0 vote. In the same series of motions, the council approved Resolution #2026-03 to pay invoices and granted a sewer-waiver request for 713 N. Church Street.
Facing a substantial MPUA electricity bill after the storm, the council authorized financing the surcharge over a multi-month schedule rather than paying the entire amount up front. City Administrator Deanna Cooper and Alderman JB Waggoner explained that MPUA bills reflect usage estimates one month and are 'trued up' the following month, which contributed to the spike. The council approved the financing plan on a 6–0 vote and discussed a potential future surcharge for electric customers.
The council also approved changing the city's dental and vision insurance to Delta Dental/Vision. Alderman Frees moved to approve the annual agreement with Downtown Fayette; Alderman Waggoner seconded and the motion carried with Alderwoman Michelle Ishmael recording an abstention. Other procedural items — including approval of Jan. 27 meeting minutes and additions to the current agenda — were approved at the meeting.
Next steps: staff will implement the insurance changes, proceed with the MPUA payment plan, and follow up with the parties involved in the sewer-waiver and downtown agreement as appropriate.
