Fulton City commission discusses handicap parking, Bluff Street and maintenance needs; snow policy postponed

The Fulton City Public Safety Commission on April 24 discussed several parking and maintenance issues affecting residential streets and private lots, but took formal action only on a separate Brookside Drive recommendation.

The minutes record that the commission affirmed that responsibility for creating handicap-accessible spaces on private property rests with the property owner, which the minutes said would allow owners to place spaces where most suitable for their lots. The commission also reviewed a proposal to limit parking on Bluff Street and concluded that there is currently adequate room for emergency vehicles, so no change was ordered.

Commission members briefly discussed a proposal for one-side no-parking on Saint Francis, Palmer, Oliver and Tyler streets; that proposal received only brief consideration and no action was taken. A resident complaint about cars parking up to the curb at the corner of Westminster and W. 5th Street prompted the commission to note that no-parking areas must be marked by sign or yellow paint; the street department will inspect that location and determine whether repainting is needed. Members also noted parking near the curb at 7th Street and Walnut and curb deterioration; the street department was tasked with examining these areas for maintenance needs.

The commission postponed consideration of a snow removal policy to a future meeting; the minutes do not specify when that item will return. The meeting adjourned at 6:26 p.m.; the commission’s next scheduled meeting is May 22, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
