Board member Ben said he attended sessions arguing for a cabinet-level technology leader and stakeholder groups to set district AI policy. "They discussed the role of a technology leader within a school district," Ben said, noting a district example that convened 16 stakeholders quarterly to address AI policy and device-use practices.
Ben also described a conference conversation about "decoupling of private school and public school budgets," which was brought as a policy proposal but was ultimately declined at the conference. He said delegates debated transparency measures and state-level proposals to fund universal school meals and an education endowment to support equitable funding across Wisconsin.
Another board member, Jen, described a keynote speaker who emphasized the role of schools in providing purpose for struggling students and praised networking and practical sessions on AI and strategic planning. "She had you laughing, and then she had you in tears," Jen said of the keynote, and she told the board she will share key points in the district newsletter.
Board members said they will continue district strategic-planning work and consider the conference ideas — including AI policy discussion and community-engagement approaches — during the districtstrategic-plan kickoff with UW Extension and other stakeholders.
