The Miami R‑I Board of Education approved several routine but consequential items at its Nov. 19, 2024 regular meeting, including the 2023–2024 audit, a Class of 2025 senior trip, and the establishment of a spring trap season with the Missouri State High School Clay Target League.
Les Nieder moved to approve the agenda and Jamie Fairbairn seconded; that procedural motion passed 5–0 before board member Richie Powell joined virtually at 7:01 p.m. The board later approved the consent agenda, which included minutes from Oct. 15 (regular and executive) and Oct. 24 (special), November bills and ledger reports, by a 6–0 vote.
Katie Bell‑Abend of DSWA Certified Public Accountants presented the 2023–2024 audit during the presentations portion of the meeting. Les Nieder moved and Jamie Fairbairn seconded to approve the audit as presented; the motion carried 6–0.
The board approved the Class of 2025 senior trip after Jaime Reitz presented the proposed destination, timing and activities. The motion, moved by Les Nieder and seconded by Dea Erickson, passed 6–0.
Board members also voted 6–0 to permit Miami R‑I to hold a spring trap season with the Missouri State High School Clay Target League, following a presentation by Shannon Crawford.
On district business, the board agreed to post candidate filings for board seats beginning Dec. 10, 2024 at 8 a.m. and ending Dec. 31, 2024 at 5 p.m., set the reorganizational meeting for Tuesday, April 15, 2025 (moving the regular April meeting to that date), and approved payment for architectural services to The Design Club, Inc. All those motions passed 6–0.
The board also noted it will recognize Rainz Gerleman on Dec. 11, 2024 for obtaining his diploma.
Near the end of the public portion, Les Nieder moved and Dea Erickson seconded to adjourn to executive session for personnel matters under RSMo §610.021(1), (3), (6) and (13). The roll‑call vote recorded six yes votes and no no votes; the board returned to no further on‑the‑record business and the minutes state it did not re‑enter the regular session.
The minutes of the Nov. 19 meeting were prepared by Secretary Lisa Filitngberger and submitted for approval on Dec. 19, 2024. The board president at the meeting was Alicia Collins.
