Gerald board approves sewer transfer, equipment purchases and playground buy

The Gerald Board of Aldermen unanimously approved several spending actions at a Jan. 30 special meeting, including a $14,000 transfer from Sewer Operating to the Sewer Equipment Reserve and authorization for Public Works to buy a new lawn mower for up to $11,500.
Alderman Cary Parker moved to transfer $14,000 to the sewer equipment reserve; Alderman Kyle Guerrant seconded and all aldermen voted aye. The board then approved a motion — moved by Parker and seconded by Alderman Rudy Via — authorizing Public Works to purchase a new lawn mower not to exceed $11,500 and to sell the city’s diesel mower to Rosebud Public Works for $2,000. The motions carried on unanimous votes.
The board also approved buying the playground equipment recommended earlier in the workshop. Alderman Rudy Via moved the playground purchase, Alderman Kyle Guerrant seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The special meeting began at 6:30 PM and followed the workshop session in which park improvements and equipment needs were discussed. City Clerk Shelley Smythe was directed to publish the end-of-year financials in the Gasconade Republican after a motion by Alderman Via and seconded by Alderman Parker; that motion passed.
What happens next: staff will proceed with procurement for the mower and playground equipment under the limits approved by the board, and Public Works Director Dave DeFrenne will coordinate sale of the diesel mower to Rosebud Public Works. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Feb. 13, 2025, at 6:30 PM.
