Gerald board approves aeration system upgrade, schedules tax-rate hearing and renames park road

The Gerald Board of Aldermen on Aug. 8 voted to upgrade the city’s wastewater aeration system and to pay for the work from water and sewer funds. Alderman Cary Parker moved the measure, Alderman Rudy Via seconded, and the board voted unanimously to proceed.
City Clerk Shelley Smythe told the board that not all information needed for setting the tax rate had arrived from Franklin County and asked that the board hold a public hearing on the 2024 tax rate. Alderman Parker moved to schedule that hearing for Aug. 29, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.; Alderman Kyle Guerrant seconded and the motion carried. Alderman Corey Novotney notified the board he would be out of town and unable to attend the Aug. 29 hearing.
Mayor Angela Koepke asked for suggestions to name the road around the city lake, and Alderman Corey Novotney moved to adopt the name City Park Drive; Alderman Cary Parker seconded and the board voted unanimously to approve the new name.
Public Works Director Dave DeFrenne reported that crews have begun installing new radio‑read water meters and transmitters. The minutes do not specify the cost or vendor for the aeration upgrade or the water‑meter project; funding for the aeration work was recorded as coming from water and sewer funds.
