Board spotlights student art, student representatives; superintendent reports ACT gains and strong summer signups

The board also recognized student representatives Lydia and Zeke for their service. Both students thanked the board; one student said serving as a representative taught them how great the district is and noted involvement in student government and clubs.
In regular reports, district staff said juniors' composite ACT scores rose by 1.1 points from the prior year, an increment the ACT characterizes as strong growth; staff highlighted high-percentile performance in several subject areas. The district also reported summer-school registration opened that day with 220 students enrolled in the first ten minutes and about 550 registered at the time of the meeting.
The meeting included lighthearted presenter remarks about individual student pieces and a formal reading of correspondence and proclamations recognizing military children and School Library Month.
The consent agenda, which included minutes, hires, and donations, passed by voice vote; among donations read into the record was an item described as a $505,100 donation from Hidden Valley Designs Inc to the West Salem trap team.
