Council tables Fayette Housing Authority PILOT-fee exemption request; FHA outlines $1.7M improvement plan

At the Jan. 27 meeting, representatives of the Fayette Housing Authority described an upcoming $1,700,000 improvement project and said occupancy across the Authority’s properties is about 90 percent. Ann Schnell and Kathryn Leaton briefed the council on project scope and financing plans.
The council reviewed an agreement dating to 1967 between the city and the housing authority and noted the agreement requires the city to obtain approval from other taxing jurisdictions before granting exemptions. Because additional information was needed, Alderman J.B. Waggoner moved to table the Fayette Housing Authority’s request for exemption to the owed PILOT fees; Alderman David Frees seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Mayor Greg Stidham and staff did not approve or deny the request at the Jan. 27 meeting; the item will return when the city has obtained the required information from other taxing authorities and any supporting documentation requested by staff.
