Water and Light Commission approves event banners and a power hookup for summer and fall events

The East Grand Forks City Water and Light Commission on July 1 approved three event‑support requests: an Arts & Crafts Fair banner at Sorley Bridge (Aug. 31–Oct. 5), a UND homecoming banner (installation Sept. 7–Oct. 4, homecoming Sept. 28–Oct. 3) and a complimentary power/service hookup for Catfish Days at the same location used last year.
Staff described the arts and crafts banner request as a standard, recurring installation to promote the October fair. A staff member said the Arts & Crafts Council asked for the Sorley Bridge location and recommended approving the installation during the requested period. Tina, representing the UND Alumni Foundation, requested the homecoming banner and provided the event dates.
Ryan, representing Catfish Days, asked for a complimentary power and single service hookup at the event site; staff did not raise operational objections. Each request was moved, seconded and approved on roll calls with unanimous affirmative responses recorded by the clerk.
The approvals reaffirm the commission’s routine practice of accommodating community event promotion and temporary service requests. Next steps for organizers are to coordinate logistics and any required site preparation with city staff ahead of installation and event dates.
