Queenstown to limit bulk pickups, add $10 request fee starting Jan. 2026

At a work session Oct. 15, the Queenstown Commissioners agreed to tighten rules for bulk and brush collection, citing an 83% increase in average tonnage and a 129% increase in average collection cost over recent years.
Starting in January 2026, bulk collection will occur every other Monday (the same week as recycling) and will be available by request only. Residents must submit a request form and pay a $10 fee per collection; the form and payment must be received by the Wednesday before the scheduled pickup. The commission set a per‑pickup limit of 3 cubic yards for bulk items (the size of a large pickup truck bed).
Yard waste and brush collection will be offered every Monday from March 1 through Dec. 31, with no regular service in January and February. The commissioners approved one special collection on the third Monday in January for Christmas tree pickup. Yard waste and brush collection will remain free and will not require a request form, but the same 3‑cubic‑yard limit applies.
Commissioners asked staff to reduce disposal costs by taking collected brush to the county dump when feasible and to avoid using a facility identified in the discussion as "Bakers." The commission directed Town Clerk Aaron Horney to prepare the bulk request form and a separate mailing to all residents announcing the changes; the notice is to be mailed by Nov. 15, 2025.
The changes were adopted by consensus at the work session; no separate formal ordinance or town council vote was recorded in the session minutes. The new schedules, fee and limits are slated to take effect Jan. 2026.
