A supplier told Queenstown commissioners on Sept. 10 that the town’s membrane biological reactor (MMBR) membranes have been experiencing unusually short service life of about two to three years and that ragging and splitting indicate probable problems with screen and grit removal.
The supplier offered to review copies of previous M+H inspection reports and to visit the wastewater plant to inspect equipment. The supplier also proposed a follow-up meeting that would include Susquehanna owner George Smith to determine corrective measures, town minutes show.
Town Manager Amy Moore and staff said they will review the inspection reports and coordinate an on-site visit. The supplier also discussed the plant’s HVAC unit: staff relayed advice from Kenney at J.C. Warner recommending two wall-mounted 2.5-ton commercial ductless systems as a future replacement option after ongoing issues with the current NC unit.
Why it matters: Repeated premature membrane failures can increase operating costs and risk treatment interruptions if not addressed. Commissioners accepted the supplier’s offer to review reports and assess site conditions before deciding on repairs or equipment changes.
What happens next: Staff will review M+H inspection reports, schedule an on-site assessment with the supplier and Susquehanna owner George Smith, and pursue HVAC replacement options per JC Warner’s recommendation if warranted.
