Tennessee House withdraws multiple bills, adopts resolution honoring Adrian Macklin and sets special alcohol calendar

Representative Sparks urged members and the media to promote the Safe TN app, saying, "Members, we got a serious problem with mental health with our students. Share the Safe TN app." The remarks highlighted a recurring focus among members on student mental-health concerns.
On procedure, Chair Lady Moody moved the consent calendar for third and final consideration; Clerk Mitch Clark recorded the vote as "It's 91," and the Speaker declared the consent calendar passed after noting a constitutional majority. Earlier in the session the House voted to refer Senate Joint Resolution 17 to the Naming and Designating Committee (reported by the clerk as 52 yeas, 31 nays) and concurred with Senate Joint Resolution 24 recognizing the Tennessee Federation of Republican Women (reported 83 yeas, 6 nays).
Members proceeded through unfinished business chiefly by moving to withdraw many individual house bills from committee so they could return to the floor for further consideration. Examples of bills ordered withdrawn (by motion, typically "so ordered" or without objection) included HB 80, HB 362, HB 690, HB 472, HB 360, HB 670, HB 460 and HB 461, HB 750, HB 730, HB 301, HB 159, HB 619, HB 613, and others. Those motions were made by a range of members and were recorded as ordered by the Speaker.
The House suspended the rules for immediate introduction and consideration of House Joint Resolution 119 and adopted it; the resolution honors Adrian Macklin for being named the 2025 Grammy Music Educator of the Year, and members voting in the affirmative were asked to be added as co-prime sponsors.
Clerk Mitch Clark announced that the Departments and Agencies Subcommittee will set a special alcohol calendar to be heard Tuesday, March 11, 2025, and said the amendment deadline for the omnibus liquor-by-the-drink bill is 10 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025. Members were also reminded that the bill-filing deadline is at close of business the following day and that bills must be placed on notice by the stated notice deadline.
The Speaker moved that the House stand in recess until 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025. The House recessed after completing the day’s procedural business.
