Tennessee House opens session, approves consent calendar and withdraws House Bill 58
Summary
The Tennessee House convened, heard a prayer and the pledge, approved the consent calendar by voice vote (91–0, one present not voting), approved withdrawal of House Bill 58 from committee and the chamber without objection, set committee scheduling and then recessed until Feb. 13.
Speaker Vickery declared the House of Representatives of the 114th General Assembly in session and directed the sergeant-at-arms to admit members and close the chamber doors.
Representative Hicks served as chaplain of the day and led the chamber in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Clerk Clark announced roll call and reported 84 members present early in the proceedings.
Members handled introductory and procedural business, including referral of resolutions under Rule 17. A motion was made to pass the consent calendar on third and final consideration under Rule 50; the clerk recorded 91 ayes, no nays and one member present but not voting. The presiding officer declared the consent calendar passed.
During unfinished business, a representative moved to withdraw House Bill 58 from the committee and the House; the motion was approved without objection.
Clerk Clark made several scheduling announcements: the Calendar and Rules Committee will meet at 8:30 a.m. the following day; an insurance committee meeting scheduled for the evening was canceled; and the filing deadline for committee amendments for committees meeting Tuesday was set at close of business Friday because of a Monday holiday.
Before adjourning for the recess, a motion that the House stand in recess until 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, was approved without objection. The House then recessed.
