Select Board asks for cost comparison before choosing municipal electricity opt-in rate

The Select Board on Aug. 6 discussed which supplier rate to select for municipal meters after the town’s current Standard Power contract ended. Town Administrator Nicole MacStay said Community Power Coalition of New Hampshire was the only supplier to respond with a municipal opt-in rate and briefed the board on the choices.
Board members noted that most electricity used in town buildings comes from the town’s solar array, leaving only smaller meters affected by the supplier choice. Chair Tyler Ward and Selectman Bill Kennedy expressed support for the 'Clean 100' 12¢/kWh rate; Mr. Kennedy said a Peterborough Local option could benefit local projects. Selectman Bill Taylor emphasized preferring the option that would save taxpayers money.
Ms. MacStay told the board contract terms can be reconsidered every six months and agreed to provide a direct cost comparison between the Clean 100 and Peterborough Local options so the board can make a data-driven decision. The default supplier rate for residents remains 9.3¢/kWh.
