Select Board approves police appointment, equipment purchase and service agreements

At its Aug. 6 meeting the Peterborough Select Board appointed a new police officer, approved a $36,927.60 boom mower attachment purchase, made Conservation Commission appointments, rescheduled the town-wide revaluation to 2025, and authorized a backup ambulance contract and an updated collective bargaining agreement following a non-public session.
The Peterborough Select Board on Aug. 6 unanimously approved a series of routine but consequential municipal actions, including appointing a new police officer, authorizing a capital equipment purchase for roadside mowing, and approving intermunicipal emergency service and labor-agreement actions following a non-public session.
Police Chief Scott Guinard introduced Stephen Maurice, who graduated from the Police Academy in April and has begun field training; Select Board Chair Tyler Ward moved to appoint Maurice as a Peterborough police officer and the board voted in favor. The board also approved the minutes from the July 2, 2024 meeting.
DPW Director Seth MacLean requested a $36,927.60 expenditure from the Fleet Management Capital Reserve Fund to purchase a boom mower attachment for the new John Deere tractor after he reported the old mower is no longer operational; the board voted to approve the purchase to enable in-house roadside mowing.
Chair Ward moved to appoint John Patterson, John Kerrick, Matt Lundsted and Jo Anne Carr to the Conservation Commission and to appoint Dick McNamara as an alternate; the motions were seconded and carried unanimously.
Assessing Clerk Alison Kreutz explained that a software-conversion complication prevented timely completion of the town-wide revaluation for the 2024 tax year; the board accepted her request to reschedule the revaluation to the 2025 tax year and to have the vendor hold the completed product until after 2024 fall bills are issued.
The board entered non-public session at 5:38 p.m. under RSA 91-A:3 II (a) (consideration of legal advice) and (c) (reputation) and exited at 6:02 p.m.; the board then voted to seal the non-public minutes. After the non-public session, the Select Board authorized Town Administrator Nicole MacStay to enter into a contract with the Town of Jaffrey for backup ambulance service and to execute the updated collective bargaining agreement; both authorizations passed unanimously.
