Audubon County supervisors approve road payments, Ragbrai liquor permits, claims and auditor stipends

At their June 30 meeting, the Audubon County Board of Supervisors approved several routine and event-related items, including contractor payments, liquor licenses tied to Ragbrai, and an auditor stipend resolution.
The board approved payment #2 for the LE-8 Bridge Replacement Project, issuing $24,333.42 to GUS Construction, and payment #3 for the Mockingbird Avenue Paving Project, issuing $230,318.07 to OMNI Engineering. Engineer Mitch Rydl told supervisors crews are performing ditch cleanings and road rocking, and that roadside staff will handle a temporary mowing request near the Landus site in Exira.
The board also reviewed liquor-license applications for vendors planning to serve at Ragbrai, raising concerns about one vendor’s proposed setup in the right of way. Supervisors approved a permit for Singlespeed Brewing Co. pending documentation of a vendor permit with the city of Exira and approved Sassy Lemonade Slushes pending an updated site sketch that moves the setup out of the right of way.
Supervisors approved claims submitted by county departments totaling $313,249.01 and approved the meeting minutes from June 23, 2026. They adopted Resolution 2026-42 to pay Auditor Lisa Frederiksen a $2,800 AFR stipend and a $2,800 annual audit stipend, to be distributed in biweekly pay periods between July 1 and Nov. 30 each fiscal year.
Auditor Frederiksen also reported receiving a DNR letter noting the county does not belong to a flood insurance program and raised questions about an ACED agreement that appears to use $550,000 allocated for rural projects on city projects; she and the engineer will continue to review transfers and related asset documentation. The board noted State Auditors will begin the next audit within the next month or two.
Public-health staff reported May was a busy month for services; Jotham Arber said door hangers with a QR code for a community health needs assessment will be distributed, a Home Health "check in" program has begun and an Exira Free Clinic will start in July as staff prepare for Ragbrai.
