Robert Martin was sworn in as mayor at a special called Town Council meeting on Jan. 2, 2026. Judge Barry Koon administered the Oath of Office and Martin recited the oath while his wife, Sheila, held the Bible.
Councilmembers McKeva Kinard‑Shelton and Mike Hawkins were sworn in during the same meeting. McKeva Kinard‑Shelton recited the oath as Reverend Dr. Maxine Sumpter held the Bible; Mike Hawkins recited the oath while his wife, Andy, held the Bible.
Councilman Chad Hawkins called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m., invited Reverend David Adams to open with prayer and led the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes record attendance by Mayor Robert Martin and Councilmembers Chad Hawkins, Mike Hawkins and McKeva Kinard‑Shelton, along with administrative staff including Karen Livingston, Town Administrator; Michelle Wise, Clerk/Treasurer; Wesley Palmore, Police Chief; and Jennifer Nichols, Town Attorney.
After the swearing-in, Mayor Martin, Councilmember Mike Hawkins and Councilmember McKeva Kinard‑Shelton made brief remarks. The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m., and attendees moved to a reception at the Depot. Michelle Wise, Clerk/Treasurer, attested to the minutes.
