Select Board approves donations, road designation, capital purchases and appointments in Sept. 3 meeting

At its Sept. 3 meeting the Peterborough Select Board unanimously approved acceptance of a $17,750.46 skate-park donation, designated a segment of General Miller Road as an emergency lane, authorized multiple capital expenditures including two fleet trucks and a K-9 vehicle, and appointed Susan Garcia to the Recycling Center Advisory Committee.
The Peterborough Select Board on Sept. 3 approved a package of routine municipal actions including acceptance of a skate-park donation, a roadway designation, several capital expenditures, and an appointment.
The board accepted donated funds of $17,750.46 to be used for renovation of the skate park at Adams Park. The motion to accept the donation was made by Chair Tyler Ward and carried unanimously.
The board also designated the Class VI portion of General Miller Road as an emergency lane to permit the Highway Department to widen the southernmost portion for a public turn‑around; Seth MacLean described the work as limited to publicly owned land and said it would not redesignate the road. An abutter, Michael Nadeu, spoke in favor, citing repeated trouble for larger vehicles turning around. The board approved the designation unanimously.
On capital spending, the board authorized $52,656 from the Police Department Fleet Management Capital Reserve Fund to replace the K-9 vehicle and approved $160,200 from the Fleet Management Capital Reserve Fund to purchase a Ford 550 and a Ford 350 with plow and sander attachments, as requested by the superintendent. The combined vehicle approvals were put forward and passed without opposition.
The Select Board also authorized $6,830 from the West Peterborough TIF Expendable Trust to buy six Adirondack chairs and prune crab apple trees at Teixeira Park, following Parks Committee feedback requesting more seating. Chair Ward moved to appoint Susan Garcia to the Peterborough Recycling Center Advisory Committee; the motion was seconded and carried.
Other routine approvals included the town’s application for an $8,200 Peterborough Highway Safety Grant (typically applied for by Chief Guinard) and approval of prior meeting minutes. All votes were recorded as unanimous 'All in favor' with the three Select Board members present.
