Tennessee Vols baseball team, coach and administrators honored on House floor

The Tennessee House paused routine business to honor the University of Tennessee baseball team for winning the NCAA Men's College World Series. Representative Wright asked the sergeant-at-arms to escort the players, coaches and administrators into the well for a recognition on the House floor.

Senator Massey, Representative Wright and others praised the team’s accomplishment and thanked coaches and administrators. Tennessee athletics director Danny White told members he appreciated the invitation and described the national championship as the result of broad institutional support and sustained program development.

Head coach Tony Vitiello, introduced by White, thanked the chamber and the community for supporting the program. "I'm beyond honored to be here," Vitiello said, adding that the players do the hard work and that the team values the wide support of alumni, donors and fans.

Members were invited to join the team in the well for a photograph to commemorate the recognition. The remarks took place during the "Welcome, Honoring, and Announcements" portion of the day’s session and did not include formal legislative action.
