Jim Niespodzany told the committee the association has raised about $80,000 over eight years toward replacing 1950s wooden poles, updating wiring and switching to LED fixtures. He asked whether the city could contribute an estimated remaining $40,000–$50,000 and whether the association could proceed without city funding if the council declined to provide the gap.
Jeremy Barth explained the proposed installation process, describing replacement of poles and masts, new LED fixtures and rewiring to meet current standards. Committee members discussed the financing question and practical next steps for construction and permitting.
Council member Schaumberg moved that the committee recommend the council grant the Seymour Baseball Association permission to proceed with the lighting project; Council member Hurkman seconded and the motion carried. The committee’s action was a recommendation to the full council; any city funding decision will be made in a later council action.
