River Ridge supervisor James Gilman resigns; board to seek applicants for Seat 1

The River Ridge Community Development District Board accepted the resignation of Supervisor James Gilman (Seat 1) on Aug. 27, 2024. The resignation was presented by Mrs. Adams and accepted by unanimous motion from Mr. Kurt Blumenthal, seconded by Mr. Robert Twombly.

Mrs. Adams said Mr. Gilman represented The Meadows for eight years and reported that he told a friend resident to submit his resume; because this is an appointment to fill an unexpired term rather than an election, the board agreed to notify The Meadows’ residents about the vacancy. The board consensus was to have Mr. Long and The Meadows’ property owners’ association manager e-blast residents with candidate qualification requirements and request resumes or letters of interest prior to the next meeting.

The appointment will fill the seat through the term’s expiration in November 2026; administration of oath of office, required ethics training guidance (Form 1 instructions), and disclosure filing were noted as forthcoming in a separate package. The board deferred any additional action on the membership/ethics training packet to a later meeting.

Next steps: staff will publicize the vacancy and include submitted resumes on the next agenda for consideration. The board’s action establishes a recruitment process rather than scheduling a special election.
