Brentwood ARB reviews screened porch proposal at 9416 Sonora, postpones materials review for 2002 S Brentwood

Under old business, staff reported that the completed rear and side exterior materials at 2002 S Brentwood do not match what the board had approved previously. Carl Karlen moved to postpone consideration so the applicant can make revisions; Chair Matt Forman seconded and a roll-call vote carried with unanimous assent. The item is scheduled for further review on April 16, 2026.
At 9416 Sonora Avenue, architects from Blaes Architects described a proposal for a new rear screened porch and deck. "The project entailed a new screened in porch and deck addition," said Alex Blaes of Blaes Architects. Architect Tim Shotts described window orientation and deck layout and said the team was "trying to match the shingles." When asked about materials, Blaes said they were "matching the existing," and Shotts added that the only siding being added would be on the chimney and "would be the same color." Shotts said he thought the contractor would run a new gutter. Board member Carl Karlen said any effort to make the work "look natural and not like an addition would be ideal." On 8718 Eulalie, the applicant requested more time to revise plans for a proposed 1.5-story single-family home with a two-car garage. Paul Turner moved to continue the item to the April 16 meeting; Carl Karlen seconded and the continuation was approved with "All in favor."
Staff noted the next Architectural Review Board meeting date as April 16, 2026. Chair Forman adjourned the meeting at 6:45 p.m.
