Greenwood council approves temporary easements, equipment purchase and vendor selections

The Greenwood City Council voted to approve a series of resolutions Tuesday that authorize temporary construction easements for sanitary sewer work, purchase a trailer for public works and select new vendor partners.
The council unanimously passed Resolution R2024-74 to establish a temporary construction easement at 303 18th Avenue, North Greenwood, and R2024-75 for a similar easement at 401 18th Avenue. Staff described the easements as necessary to allow contractors to access back yards to install lines as part of Basin No. 2 sanitary sewer improvements, and said about four properties will be affected. "We'll stay in contact with them as the project advances…so there's no surprises," said the staff member overseeing the project (Staff member, Speaker 7).
The council also approved Resolution R2024-76 to acquire a Doodle EZ Loader GT trailer through Trailers Direct of Kansas City. Chair (Speaker 3) said the trailer completes the department's remaining asphalt equipment purchases alongside the roller and miller and noted the city budgeted $15,000 for the purchase. "So now you can go live and start just patching stuff," Chair said.
By separate votes the council named Mike Keith Insurance Inc. as the city's insurance brokerage services provider (R2024-77) after interviews with four firms and selected Future IQ to update Greenwood's comprehensive plan (R2024-78). Staff said the comprehensive-plan project will emphasize public engagement and replace a plan last updated in 2008. Finally, the council reauthorized solicitation of bids for reconstruction of the Grama Historical Rock Island Railroad building after an initial RFP received no responses (R2024-79). Staff asked council members to share the reposted RFP with qualified firms.
The resolutions were approved by council voice votes. No public speakers spoke on any of these items during the meeting. The council directed staff to continue communications with affected property owners for the sewer work and to proceed with procurement steps for the equipment and consultant work.
