Lake Contractor Reports Reduced Noise Level but Tone Persists; Plantings on Hold After Neighbor Concerns

Premier Lakes and district operations staff updated the River Ridge board on lake maintenance, sound complaints and planned plantings during the July 23 meeting.

Bill Kurth of Premier Lakes said overall lakes, preserves and dry retention areas are in good condition but that seasonal algae growth had been observed. Kurth reported a cabinet added around a compressor at the Masters Lake reduced the measured sound level from 64 to 52 decibels, which he described as acceptable for the halfway point between the compressor and the screen line. Operations Manager Shane Willis, who performed the lake audit, said the bigger issue is not decibel level but the tone of the aerator, and recommended evaluating whether moving the compressor could reduce the nuisance tone.

Staff and board members discussed moving the compressor within the easement; Willis will coordinate with Bill and Alex Kurth on potential relocation and report back at the next meeting. Board Chair Bob Schultz summarized related Edgewater issues, including flooding and littoral plantings, and recommended meeting with Tim Wilkin at Edgewater 1 NUR to pursue a mutually acceptable solution. The consensus was to delay planting Canna lilies in Lake E4-A; plantings there will be placed on hold until an agreement is reached with the Edgewater Association and the proposal is resubmitted.

Mr. Kurth left the meeting after his report. Operations staff will return with findings and any relocation proposals at a future meeting.
