Warner Select Board will post minute-taker position; interim contractor to continue
Summary
After an initial unanimous vote to hire the current contractor at $20/hour, public comment prompted the Warner Select Board to void that hire and instead post the minute-taking position while keeping Tracy Doherty on contract as an interim transcriber.

The Warner Select Board debated the status of its minute-taking service and on April 28 decided to post a part-time minute-taker position while continuing to contract with the current transcriber as an interim.
Chair Alfred Hanson introduced the topic, noting that contracted minute-taker Tracy Doherty had requested conversion to a part-time employee for tax purposes. Select Board members discussed cost implications; Treasurer Ginger Marsh said converting the contractor to an employee would add roughly $400 for federal and Social Security taxes. Vice Chair Rick Bixby said Doherty does good work and the board did not want to lose her.
Chair Hanson originally moved, and the board approved, hiring Tracy Doherty at $20 per hour (roll-call: Bixby YES, Hanson YES, Smith YES). During public comment residents asked whether the position needed to be posted, how many hours it would include, and whether it would be eligible for benefits. After those comments the board voted to void the hire motion and instead follow the formal hiring procedure, keeping Doherty on as an interim contractor while posting the part-time position (roll-call: Bixby YES, Smith YES, Hanson YES). The board agreed Alfred Hanson will survey typical minute-taking hours for town boards.
The Select Board did not adopt a benefits package or job description at the meeting and instructed staff to post the position and return with posting details and hour estimates.
