Dennis Beliveau and Caitlin Corbette presented plans Jan. 6 to replace an existing garage at 49 Tower Hill Road with a slightly larger structure that would include an open, heated second‑floor room and electrical service. The applicants said they are preparing a building permit and a Historic District application and were seeking preliminary feedback from the Historic District Commission before filing.
Chair Sam Swartz and member Nina Gardner stressed that window proportions and overall appearance should relate to the main house. Gardner said the new windows should “tie in” with the house’s mix of window sizes and that materials need not be identical so long as they match aesthetically. Selectman Brandon Deacon and Gardner noted that a solid stain is an acceptable alternative to paint and may increase longevity; members also discussed roof options and said a metal roof that mimics shingles is feasible but can be more expensive.
Swartz asked the applicants to submit color numbers or swatches and proposed window options to the Commission ahead of the formal hearing to streamline review. The applicants did not request any binding waivers; the Commission’s feedback was advisory and intended to help the formal application process.
The Commission made no decision at the meeting; applicants were advised to return with the requested samples and details when they file their Historic District application.
