The Highway Building Advisory Committee on Sept. 2 set preliminary specifications for a salt shed and the paving footprint at the proposed highway facility.
William MacDuffie Jr. recommended a salt shed 72 feet long by 60 feet deep, with a 24‑foot front height and 10‑foot rear height to permit three 24‑foot bays. MacDuffie said that volume of salt and sand would be sufficient for two standard snowstorms but not for a significantly larger event: "That amount of salt and sand would be enough for two standard snowstorms," he said.
MacDuffie advised placing the salt shed in line with the garage’s back wall about 20 feet away so plow trucks can exit straight from the bays past the shed. The committee also discussed paving needs; members noted the Zoning Ordinance requires a 50‑foot setback from the property line and estimated a paved footprint roughly 120 by 100 feet, with exact pavement extents to be finalized when the construction plans include the shed.
Hoyt said the committee will determine exact pavement requirements once the construction plan is complete and bids can be solicited. No formal vote was required on the dimensions; the specifications were part of the committee’s design discussion and planning guidance for the construction plans.
