Shiawassee County commissioners elect Garber vice-chair, chair confirms 2026 committee rosters

The Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday elected Commissioner Garber as vice-chair for a one-year term and set its 2026 sub-committee rosters, the board recorded at its organizational meeting in Corunna.
Chairman Brodeur called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Commissioner Chambers of the Surbeck Building and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll call found Commissioners Holzhausen, Johnson, Garber, Howard and Chairman Brodeur present; Commissioner Haley was excused and Commissioner Shepard was not present at roll call.
During nominations for vice-chair, Commissioner Johnson nominated Commissioner Garber for a one-year term. No other nominations were offered, and a roll-call vote recorded five yes votes—Commissioners Holzhausen, Johnson, Garber, Howard and Chairman Brodeur—and zero nays, electing Garber as the board's 2026 Vice-Chairman.
Following the election, Chairman Brodeur confirmed the board's 2026 sub-committee appointments. The Economic & Development sub-committee was listed with Commissioner Howard as chair, Commissioner Holzhausen as vice-chair and Commissioner Haley as a member. Finance & Administration was listed with Commissioner Garber as chair, Commissioner Howard as vice-chair and Commissioner Johnson as a member. Public Safety & Courts was listed with Commissioner Haley as chair, Commissioner Howard as vice-chair and Commissioner Garber as a member. Health & Human Services was listed with Commissioner Garber as chair, Commissioner Haley as vice-chair and Commissioner Holzhausen as a member.
Chairman Brodeur opened the floor for public comment; no one responded. Commissioner Shepard arrived at 5:02 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 5:02 p.m. The minutes are signed by Caroline D. Wilson, Shiawassee County Clerk and Clerk to the Board of Commissioners.
The organizational meeting established leadership and committee assignments that will guide the board's committee work through 2026; no formal ordinance or budget actions were taken at this short session.
