At the July 6, 2026 meeting, a representative reading on behalf of Young Men of Distinction asked the town to formally recognize the organization and its partners as the stewards of the Todd Family Community Garden at 323 Antioch Avenue.
The representative described the garden as “a living legacy” used for education, volunteer stewardship and community programming, and requested formal recognition so local partners could continue maintenance and programming in partnership with the town. The written request said volunteers provide year-round upkeep and listed community partners involved with the garden’s programs and activities.
President Zella Hayward moved to allow the Young Men of Distinction mentoring project to remain stewards of the garden; the motion was seconded and the commissioners voted in favor (three recorded “Aye” votes) and the motion carried.
The board did not record additional conditions on the stewardship during the meeting; staff will reflect the action in meeting records and follow up on any necessary paperwork or formal agreements.
