At the Feb. 24 Athens in Motion Commission meeting, ACCGov Transit and transportation staff updated commissioners on operations, a near-term trail opening and a recent crash fatality.
Jeremy Barnett and Tina Wu of ACCGov Transit said staff are reviewing on-time performance after the Jan. 12 service change and are analyzing that data to determine whether additional service changes will be needed. Park planning staff (via Daniel Sizemore) said Todd Miller expects Firefly Trail Phase III to open in late March, pending final preparation. Transportation and Public Works staff (Katie Goodrum and Jason Jones) flagged a bicycle fatality on Feb. 23 at Olympic Drive and Athena Drive in the monthly crash report and said the completed Safe Streets for All plan updates will be provided to Mayor & Commission before the next review.
Commissioners did not take formal action on transit adjustments or safety recommendations at the meeting. Staff indicated follow-up analysis and document delivery to Mayor & Commission as the next steps.
