Athens in Motion Commission seeks feedback on bicycle and pedestrian plan ahead of spring review

Daniel Sizemore, the county's Bike, Pedestrian and Safety Coordinator, told the Athens in Motion Commission on Feb. 24 that staff aim to have a revised bicycle and pedestrian plan ready for Mayor and Commission review this spring. He said the team is still waiting on data used for project prioritization and is consolidating existing projects into five geographic areas, from Atlanta Highway to Lexington Road.
The plan revision is intended to create a prioritized list of projects that will guide short- and medium-term investments across the city. Commission Chair Lauren Blais said the consolidated list will be shared with commissioners for input once the data-driven prioritization is complete. Daniel said he will circulate the merged project list to the commission for review and feedback.
Commissioners did not debate or vote on any project-level approvals at the meeting. The next step is for staff to deliver the prioritized project list to the commission; commissioners will have an opportunity to comment before staff forward the package to the Mayor & Commission for formal review this spring. The AiM Commission's next regular meeting is scheduled for March 24 at 4:00 p.m.
