Malone board approves three-year lease modification with Malone Golf Club after public hearing

Supervisor Andrea Stewart opened a public hearing at 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 10 on a proposed three-year lease modification between the Town of Malone and Malone Golf Club, Inc. Deputy Clerk Lily McCaffrey read the legal notice and a written comment from Jane Blyth of Owls Head opposing the 25% in-town discount as unfair to out-of-town taxpayers.
Malone Golf Club President Steven Vanier attended to answer questions from the board and the public. When asked by resident Kaitlin Parker whether Canadian members were satisfied with the change, Vanier replied, "they are no longer paying 25% more than in-town members and now view the structure as an equal playing field." Supervisor Stewart also told the meeting that the 25% discount would run for three years and that other amenities would be offered exclusively to town members.
Following the hearing, Councilor Jody Johnson moved and Councilor Paul Walbridge seconded Resolution 193-2025 to approve the lease modification relating to annual fees; the board adopted the resolution by unanimous vote (Ayes 4). The public hearing had been closed earlier by Resolution 190-2025.
The action changes the fee structure for town members for a defined three-year period and, according to Malone Golf Club leadership, leaves out-of-town members satisfied with the revised structure. The board did not record specific dollar amounts or other fee terms in the public portion of the meeting minutes; those details are part of the approved lease amendment.
